New strains are invented seemingly every week. But, which ones will actually stick around? These ten buds are the new rising stars of the cannabis world. They’re potent, they’re flavorful, and they’re taking over the scene. Here are the 10 strongest up and coming strains you need to try.
1. Golden Nugget

Golden Nugget has been in development by MSNL for the past two years. The end result has been well worth the wait. It features a THC content of 23.7%. Golden Nugget is a mix of Jack Herer crossed with an indica strain. The result is a tall yet quick growing hybrid coated with golden crystals. It typically flowers in 10 to 12 weeks and grows well both indoors and out.
2. Pink Cookies

This Washington-based strain packs a serious punch. Featuring a whopping THC content of 27.9%, this offspring of Girl Scout Cookies is now one of the strongest cannabis strains in the world. Pink Cookies first stepped onto the scene last year, but this little lady has quickly been making the rounds. Pink Cookies has potent indica hybrid effects.
3. White LSD

Bred by Dutch MSNL, White LSD is a cross between LSD and White Widow Max. Boasting a THC content of up to 24.2%, this sativa-dominant hybrid is one of the seed company’s most psychoactive strains. This strain can get a little tall, and loves the outdoors. It typically flowers in 10 to 14 weeks.
4. OCA’s Cloud 9

A popular newbie in Oregon, OCA’s Cloud 9 boasts THC content of over 30%. According to Leafly, Cloud 9 is a phenotype of Brazillian strain Borderliner. Borderliner has potent indica effects. But, Cloud 9 is much more uplifting and energetic. Both OCA’s Cloud 9 and Borderliner are difficult to find.
Borderliner is a landrace strain straight from the Brazillian rainforest, now bred by some Amsterdam seed companies. OCA’s Cloud 9 has been hanging out some small Oregon dispensaries.
5. Veganic Omrita x Hash Plant x Grapestomper

This veganic strain is potent for an entirely different reason. This strain by Los Angeles-based Buds & Roses is ultra high in CBD. Over 13% CBD, in fact. Potency and flavor are enhanced by organic and vegan growing techniques. No artificial chemicals or animal fertilizers were used during cultivation.
The flavor and overall effects of this bud are what earned it 1st place for CBD in the High Times Cannabis Cup and Carnival this year.
6. Hemlock

Hemlock is quickly gaining in popularity this year. Found in the Colorado and Arizona areas, this earthy herb has a THC content of around 21%. It’s a euphoric cross between two classics: Durban Poison and LA Confidential. Nearly 50/50 sativa and indica. The result is a happy and uplifting high coupled with a sensation of focus and relaxation.
7. Alien hallucination
Alien Hallucination has been around for a little while, but it’s really taking the limelight in 2016. Don’t be surprised to see it pop up on dispensary menus around the US. It’s a cross between Tahoe OG and LSD. Some think that there’s a little Tahoe Alien in the mix.
Expect a funky time with these pungent and citrusy herbs. Alien Hallucination’s aroma has often been described as “Christmassy”. The flower produces a very nice, energetic, and relaxed high.
8. Whiteout

Whiteout is a cross between two super popular strains: Super Silver Haze and The White. Bred by Alpha Genetics, this strain has a THC content of around 19 to 20%. Expect this beauty to flower between 8 to 10 weeks indoors. It’s Super Silver Haze lineage gives it a lemony, citrus scent with some earthy tones. Like many of this year’s rising stars, Whiteout produces a euphoric and uplifting high.
9. White Cookies

10. Crown OG
Crown OG was a first place High Times winner last year. The fluffy lady took home another award earlier this year. It’s really taken off since its debut. Featuring a THC content of 23 to 25%, it’s no wonder why this strain has become so popular.
Crown OG is known for its light-weigh buds and pine scent. One of the best things about this strain? It’s a 100% indica. Strong Kush lineage gives Crown OG its powerful sedative effects. Pick up a little bit of this herb and you’ll be down for the best sleep of your life.
These up and coming strains are only a small sampling of all of the newbies out there. As the year progresses, we’ll see who makes it to the top. In the meantime, any one of these top new strains is worth picking up at a local dispensary.
